This was by far my most challenging and fulfilling project at the Tribune. I completed this three-minute, animated explainer video in two weeks because of a shifted deadline.
It was exponentially difficult, not just because of the time limit, but because of the incredibly sensitive topic I had to visualize and explain to viewers. In the end, I am very proud of the final product, and I would not do it any differently.
I loved my fellowship at the Texas Tribune, and they provide an audience that I have not had access to before. Knowing this, we created a voter guide series to explain the basic rights of every viewer.

Voting isn’t always so exciting, so I used bright colors and simple illustrations to grab the viewer’s attention and explain hoops to jump through.
After publishing the "How to Register to Vote" video, I updated the style of the captions and introduced more dynamic animations for the "Voting by Mail or Absentee" video. Now, the captions and animations complement each other, working together seamlessly instead of competing for attention.

The newspaper took a bold step with this first video and design. They wanted to break away from their typically serious tone, so I created a vibrant, colorful layout with simple illustrations to clearly explain the voter registration process.
As the sole multimedia producer, I handled everything from storyboarding and illustrating each figure to animating, editing, narrating the voiceover and selecting the perfect music to complete the project.
This video became the blueprint for the whole series and even shaped the final short documentary I made at the end of my fellowship.
