The STAAR explainer required many different elements and skills to come together. It needed strong community reporting and interviews, thorough data analysis with R and QGIS, and intentional animation and illustration to make complex ideas a little simpler. In the end, I am proud of this piece and the reporting that the Rundberg and Austin communities need.

I helped research, produce and animate explanatory portions of this video, which explains how school vouchers in Texas will work, change public education funding and affect Rundberg, a community in Austin. It was one of my favorite projects because of the design. We could play with different animated assets and presentation formats to invoke the nostalgia of school, while also best communicating a complicated topic.

When I started as an intern at Austin PBS, I knew I would be coming on as more than just a weekly news intern. I have a lot of experience with animation and graphics, so I had the opportunity to use animation in a Decibel project about Dove Springs. I had the chance to design and animate all of the motion graphics in the documentary, adding a specific style that would help the viewers understand complex subjects and empathize with the Dove Springs community. In the end, we want to evoke change. I am incredibly grateful to have worked for such a strong, thoughtful project.
